  • Busy ukulele week in Atlanta!

There are a lot of ukulele events this week in Atlanta!

The West Georgia Ukulele Ensemble is participating in Douglas County’s first Festival of the Arts on April 18, so they won’t be meeting at Sweetwater Valley Library this week.

After a break for Easter, the Sunday Strum at Waikikie Hawaiian Barbecue on Briarcliff Rd. in Atlanta, resumes this Sunday, April 19th, from 2 – 4 p.m.

SMUG is on the road on Monday, performing at Kennesaw State University as part of an “Adopt-a-Stream Jam” on the Green at 5 p.m. Check the group’s Facebook page for specifics.

UUkers will practice as usual on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Finally, SMUG will be at their Switzer Library location on Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

  • Share some SMUG!

There are fresh flyers from the Sensational Marietta Ukulele Group, covering sessions through the winter.

These are great to share on social media, or to print out and post on public bulletin boards in the real world, to find new members who might be interested in joining the group. Give somebody a reason to bring out their new Christmas uke!

    There’s one each for:

Our main calendar should include all these sessions.

If you’re on Facebook, you can find the Sensational Marietta Ukulele Group here.

  • Quiet holiday week

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is very quiet for local ukulele groups. We’ll be playing at Waikikie Hawaiian Barbecue on Saturday the 27th from 2 to 4 p.m., and I believe UUkers will meet on Tuesday as usual.

If you’ve got a new uke or accessory, bring it out! I’ll be bringing a new Kala Light Tone soprano and a tabletop music stand I got for Christmas. Hope to see you there!

Update: John Thomas at SMUG emailed that they’ll be doing a “Final Sunday of the Year Jam” at Schoolhouse Brewing in Marietta December 28th. It will start between 1:30 and 2 and last until the place closes down (6:30ish).

  • Catch SMUG live!

The Sensational Marietta Ukulele Group has taken over the libraries of East Cobb, and they’ve got two Christmas concerts scheduled to perform and entertain.

    The shows are:

    Saturday, December 13th at 2 p.m.
    Sewell Mill Library
    2051 Lower Roswell Road
    Marietta, GA 30068

    Thursday, December 18th at 3:45 p.m.
    Gritters Library
    880 Shaw Park Road
    Marietta, GA 30066

They’ll be part of each library’s Winter Festival.
